About the Blog

Do you like making fun of terrible books but don’t want to take the time to read them? You’re in the right place.

Bad Books, Good Times is a blog run by Ariel and Matthew who read well-known bad books and mock them with the fury that only former English majors can muster. Both read the same books, writing a post for every chapter or so, and share their mockery, criticism, and smartass comments so people don’t have to actually read these books themselves.

We update four times a week because there are so many bad books to blog about and so little time. We cover one book at the start of the week (Ariel on Mondays, Matthew on Tuesdays), and another book at the end of the week (Ariel on Thursdays, Matthew on Fridays). We both read the same books at the same time (usually), because misery loves company. Wednesdays often include bonus posts or the occasional guest blogger.

Please, feel free to join in on the mocking. Ariel would like to add that though she is often terrible at responding to comments, they fill her with the joy of thousands of puppies. We’d love to hear about your good times with these bad books too!

About the Authors

Bad Books, Good Times is run by two former English majors who went to college together. They met at a summer program for creative writing while in high school because they were pretty cool kids.

Here is a little more about them.

Ariel studied English and Creative Writing during her undergrad years, but then she got a Masters in Information Systems and Technology, as you do. She now lives in London with her husband working with data by day and bad books by night.

Aside from reading bad books, she mostly watches television and develops deep attachments to fictional characters. She loves burritos, wine, and video games.

Ariel posts on the blog on Mondays and Thursdays.

Matthew studied English and Biology in college, was an arts and entertainment intern at NPR, and now does editorial work at a medical communications company in New York. He has also previously written about art and culture for NPR and Kill Screen.

He also reads too many books at the same time, is debatably too obsessed with The Mountain Goats, and owns four ukuleles.

Matthew posts on the blog on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Sounds good to me :)! I just listened to your podcast on Text Appeal for Guys – absolutely hilarious! Very informative as well. I think having a vomiting smiley face in all my posts would truly help convey my tone when blogging about bad books.

I came across your website by accident, sigh, I was looking for a picture of a toothbrush and I ended up on a page reviewing Shades of Grey, and I have to comment because it is so funny. I was never planning on reading it but I am glad you did! he he he he he. Now, back to finding a picture of a toothbrush………

    • Hahaha the magic of SEO has somehow meant that a picture of a toothbrush I once uploaded and tagged as “toothbrush” brings poor, innocent people to our blog all the time who had no idea what they were in for. I’m so glad you enjoyed it, though! Hope you come back for more when you’ve found the toothbrush you were looking for.
